I need some help please I live in a Barn Conversion where our sitting room is on an upstairs mezzanine floor. It can therefore be extremely hot in the summer. We had a Fantasia fan for some years but it no longer works and it was not very effective anyway. The room is about 12 metres by 5 metres. Can you let me have you advice on what sort of fan would be effective for this space Thanks richard
Hey richard,
If you ask us to do so, we will remove your comment from the site, because we have spoken to you by telephone about your case, and you have made the right choice in our opinion.
Your case is interesting because it is in the ideal configuration to use a ceiling fan.
However, more than just a ceiling fan, you must be dealing with a fan that regulates the temperature of your room.
Few fans can do this with power, silence, and without having to worry about it.
Moreover, you need fans of very high quality, because you will need to be away from your ceiling, otherwise you will lose efficiency in the winter. An extension cord will need to be fitted to your ceiling fan, and it will need to remain stable without vibration at all times.
As you know, warm air rises, so in winter we naturally heat the ceilings. In the summer, the place that gives off the most heat is the roof, because it is exposed to the sun all day long, so it is the ceiling that gives off heat. It is clear that high rooms, mezzanines for example, are a complicated part of the year to live in.
This is our advice,
1) An ultra-stable fan that can accept 120 cm extensions
2) A powerful ventilator summer and winter, therefore a destratifier.
3) A fan equipped with a thermostatic sensor, which senses the temperature and varies the rotation according to the temperature.
Faced with these conditions the choice is quickly made, only one brand offers this marvel, it is Klassfan.
If you are using a wood stove or a fireplace as your heating system, you cannot choose wooden blades, as they are too sensitive to sudden changes in temperature and humidity. You will have to choose ABS blades.
If your heating system is softer then no problem.
For the choice of model, the Modulos will do, and the Helix, the Latino II is also equipped with a thermostat.
With these products you will have a maximum difference of 2 to 3° between the highest and lowest point of your room.
Be careful with a wood-burning stove, the first 30 minutes there may be a little more, but quickly the temperature will spread.
We are counting on you to come and tell us here if we have solved your problem.
In any case, do like Richard, call us if you have any doubts, we will take our time to understand the configuration of your living space, and adapt the best solution for you.
Thank you for your question.
